Single Level mode?

As the description says, I beat the game on Normal difficulty and did not unlock the Single Level mode, or level select or whatever you want to call it.  Instead it unlocked a new Versus mode.
Anyone know what gives?

Wondered the same but as far as I know, the only way to play singular levels is by picking Custom Levels -> Load Level after choosing a player profile.
