What operating system are you running in?  What type of video card do you have?  Try turning off your sound and music and let me know if you still have the same problem.

The problem is probably your openal or vorbis libs.  Are you running a 32 or 64 bit version of Linux?

Someone reported a problem running Gish on in Ubuntu 'Karmic Koala' (9.10).

The solution was that pulseaudio seems to interfere with the openAL implementation. When enabling pulseaudio as driver for openal the game won't start.

They reverted to alsa and it worked fine.  Also it makes no difference if they had music turned on or off...

So removing pulseaudio fixed it.
