Yeah the mdl files are just a format we created for Pontifex.  For Pontifex II we will probably use are own format again, but we have a program that converts from lightwave format that we could release.  It will be pretty easy to make your own models for decoration in the level, but vehicles require a physics model.  You could replace an existing vehicle model however.

That would rock! And the puffs of steam!

Edit: And how about some more screenshots? Of the editor, maybe? ;)

Sure looks good... I pre-ordered already, but just read that the minimum system requirement regarding processor speed is 500 mhz - i only have a 450 mhz p3 ! plenty of RAM tho (256 megs) and a TNT2 ultra videocard (stop sniggering at the back.). CL, will the game be playable on my system? 'Cause else i should cancel my order ':('

Woops, sorry - i forgot to read the second page in the thread. I can run pfx 1 fine (a tad slow on the larger levels), so i should be all right. Phew. ':)'

Wow, so much new stuff... wind and water effects... looking forward to it!

About modding, doesn't the original Pontifex have the train model stored in a .mdl file? Maybe you could use your own models in Pfx1 already?

BTW, a pity the old topic is gone... R.I.P.
Another hack attempt?

Yes that's what I meant. A converter or something to replace the models. The Physics are hard coded i guess. So no *.ini files with the settings? (Just like the free game 'Racer', it lets you import models and set the physics for it).

But i'm looking forward seeing my high poly train in a game ':)' For high end pc's it would be fun to create a high poly set of vehicles, if the converter is availeble I'll be the first one to download it ;)

You should have waited for the pf2 demo perhaps Brinx.
It may indeed run fine, but remeber that the graphics in pf2 are better then pf1. So expect a harder hit on your processor/videocard. Though it may be possible to reduce detail and stuff (like the dynamic lighting)? And the singlebeams do not require as much processing power as the huge blocks of steel in pf1 ':)'

On my old computer pf1 ran with no problems. Only the 'fast' setting had no effect in speed. With my new one I really see some diffrence

I'm all for that - make it so high a poly count one can actually look inside the train cars and see the terrified look on the passengers' faces ':)'

Brinx, if Pontifex runs on your computer then Pontifex II should run as well, you will have to turn off options to get the speed up on a P3 450 though.

I will take a look at it when i'm at home. But if you could.. why didn't any1 else come with a model or something?

So this mac compatible version, is it Mac OS X and will it be in the release on the 17th?

I must admit that one of the reasons that I don't play often is that I don't often use my PC.

Yay for Chronic Logic for doing a Linux port. My Apple friend  - the long haried hippy  - wants to know if they have any plans to port it to Mac too.

Some quick comments on the (scant) info released so far.

  • LOD landscape - what does this mean?
  • Single-link beams - cool. Very BB
  • Joints can rotate - also cool. Again, adding the groovy features of BB back in.
  • Drawbridges - a function of the rotatable joints?
  • Flexible level editing - ooh. can't wait to hear more about this,

In general, looks good. So good that I ordered within moments of hearing about it. For £6. What a bargain.

A mac version is mentioned on the pfx2 info page (and in Josiah's post above), so I guess it's in the works.

LOD (level of detail) landscape could mean that the surface is detailed in the foreground and the parts near the horizon get simplified more and more to improve speed.

P.S. everyone's 'join dates' on this forum seem to be suddenly N/A... must be another problem caused by the recent forum breakdown... wait... CL's own join date is there! weird...
