Leader Board Rules Discussion

I wonder sometimes when someone new to the board posts low numbers.  Not to say they are wrong, just that they may not know any better.  Such as they may not know there is a hard setting or how TT'ing works.

I hope when CL makes a leader board, that the rules are clear and not "anything goes".  I hope the bridges have to be submitted before the scores can be posted.

Would a "perfect" bridge rule as described by CL in the contest be a good idea?  I think some levels can't be solved as perfect by the design of the level.

I'd also like to see a new rule: The train can't get wet.  Some of the lower scores here have the train in the water in the middle of the bridge.

What do you think about the trian jumping a gap?  Or, droping down onto a deck.  My record bridges do that.

And the bridges I dislike the most are the ones that float in the air and drop into place.

My own opinion is that as little as possible should be ruled out. Otherwise you end up making arbitrary decisions as to what's allowed and what isn't.

I personally can't think of any good reason why jumping trains should be any more valid that wet ones. They're both completely unrealistic, as is dropping several tons of heavy steel into a canyon and hoping it'll stick in the right place.

To be consistent I think you either have to either allow them all, or rule them all out, and taking the latter course would take a lot away from the game. There, I've had my say! :-D

On a side note, it's been commented elsewhere that some bridges which work fine on hard level don't work on some of the lower ones. Does this mean we need seperate score tables for each level? (It'd triple the number of available records at a stroke!)

I agree with you that's it's hard to set record rules for a leaderboard; we have discussed this (including an "honor roll" system) here.

For posting on this forum, a FAQ would suffice that outlines the info you expect people to give with their submission, including explanations what TT, wet, 0bl etc. means. Then everyone could post the score for their bridge with all the info, and noone feel cheated.
Since I am not a records poster, I'll leave making the FAQ up to you guys ;-)

I agree with Chillum on this one... everything goes except that falling bridges lose to bridges that are connected solidly to at least one anchor point for records. Come on, the anchors are there for a reason (And no, its not so you can start building stuff then delete the connecting link =) )
